artist statement My painting experience began when I concluded my bachelor's program at Cooper Union in New York in 1992. I traveled and built up a body of work in Central America before coming to Arizona. Here, I completed the masters program of fine arts at the University of Arizona in 2001. Today, I am a working artist, teach all ages, and continue to maintain a body of work. In recent years I have been inspired by the landscape ranging from urban to domestic, and mundane to surreal. I prefer all landscapes to be those in my own town. I am a Tucson resident and find the natural light compelling. I am interested in capturing situations in my painting that explore both natural and artificial lighting situations, often simultaneously, and sometimes fancified. Some of my work has begun to constitute a genre of Southwest road culture for which I found a growing market. I believe that recent positive changes in my own life have brought new energy and life to my work as I explore nightlife themes and personal interaction. |
